THE BEGINNINGS
We are a family business currently led by the fourth generation. Our beginnings date back to 1923, when our founder, José Combalía Guasch, decided to start his adventure in the world of closures encouraged by the worldwide growth in the production of beer and other carbonated beverages. This first stage started in Barcelona, at 274 Travessera de Gràcia Street, using second-hand machinery from the United States to produce the first caps. It is in this first location where our brand, UNIC, the spearhead of the company, was born.
EXPANSION
In 1968, with Alfonso Planas de Luna at the helm, Combalía's son-in-law, we moved to a new building in the Buen Pastor district of Barcelona, where we began to develop technologically, acquiring more advanced and autonomous machines. It is in this second stage where we started to sell our caps abroad, taking an important step forward in terms of quality and safety. Planas' management, however, came to an end in 1974, with his untimely death. It was then that his son, José María Planas Combalía, our current president, took over the helm.
LEADERSHIP
With Planas Combalía at the helm, we began a period of vertiginous production, with a strong international expansion that, at the beginning of 2000, forced us to change our headquarters once again in order to continue increasing our production capacity. It was at this time that we moved to Sant Feliu de Buixalleu to become market leaders. Today, almost 100 years after our foundation, and under the direction of Jose María Planas Rodríguez, we continue to manufacture crown corks with the same passion, dedication and tradition of our beginnings.
OUR PRODUCTION PLANT
In constant growth and development, in 2002 we moved our industrial production to Sant Feliu de Buixalleu (Polígono Industrial Skol), a strategic logistic enclave, next to the AP-7 highway, located only 30 minutes away from the cities of Barcelona and Girona. This new headquarters currently has a production plant of more than 5,000m2 equipped with the most modern technology that rigorously complies with the strictest quality and safety standards. Year after year, we incorporate technical, hygiene, image, safety and sustainability advances in order to have the most modern facilities in the sector.
